CPP30619 Certificate III in Investigative Services
If you are looking for a challenging career, have a passion for investigations and finding the truth then this is the course for you. As a qualified investigator, your opportunities are diverse and may include roles such as undertaking corporate investigations for an insurance firm, conducting evidence gathering for a law practice, locating missing people, conducting factual investigations or undertaking surveillance activities.
Our Certificate III in Investigative Services is a nationally recognised course and is a prerequisite for licensing of Private Investigators in Queensland under the Security Providers Act (1993). Our course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to conduct a wide range of investigations. This qualification is delivered through a flexible, self-paced training program to suit individual needs and a negotiated assessment delivery customised for the participant, with additional one to one coaching where required. You have twelve months to complete the program.
You may be required to complete a language, literacy and numeracy test to ensure that the level of qualification you have selected is appropriate for your study needs.
All students must supply:
- Proof of ID
- Proof of Australian Permanent Residency/Australian Citizenship
- Unique Student Identifier (USI)

- CPPINV3031 Conduct interviews and take statements to support investigations
- CPPINV3032 Develop factual investigation reports
- CPPINV3033 Conduct covert surveillance operations
- CPPINV3034 Organise and operate surveillance vehicles
- HLTWHS003 Maintain work health and safety
- PSPREG006 Produce formal record of interview
- PSPCRT007 Compile and use official notes
- PSPSEC009 Handle sensitive information
- CPPSEC3101 Manage conflict and security risks using negotiation
Licence Eligibility
To be eligible for a Private Investigator’s licence, you must:
- be 18 years or older
- not pose a risk to public safety
- pass the required training course.
You may not be eligible for a licence if you have been convicted of a disqualifying offence (in the past 10 years, where a conviction was recorded.)
You must also tell the Office of Fair Trading if you have been found guilty of a disqualifying offence in the past 5 years, where a conviction was not recorded (this is known as an ‘unrecorded finding of guilt’). The Office of Fair Trading may ask you for further information to assess if you are a suitable person to hold a licence.
