Workplace Health and Safety Officer Training (WHSO)
The Workplace Health and Safety Officer (WHSO) training course is the approved course of Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ).
The course meets the requirements of the Workplace Health and Safety Regulation 2011.
Course Objectives
This course will provide participants with information and skills that will assist WHSOs to carry out their role and functions under the WHS legislation, including:
- An understanding of the work health and safety legislation
- An understanding of how it applies to their role, and
- The knowledge and skills necessary to assist employers to meet their obligations under the WHS legislation
Course Aims
The aims of this course are to provide WHSOs with information and skills relating to:
- WHS legislative framework
- The role and functions of WHSQ
- Duties and responsibilities of PCBUs, officers, workers and other parties under the legislation
- Identifying hazards and risks within a workplace
- Managing hazards and risks within a workplace
- Investigating workplace incidents
A person appointed as a WHSO by a PCBU is required to undertake this training and receive a certificate of authorisation by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland or have an equivalent qualification.
Certificate is valid for 5 years
Duration
The WHSO course comprises of two sections:
Core component – 5 days face to face training
Elective component – 1 to 3 days depending on elective chosen specific to their industry
Elective choices consist of:
- Construction (3 days face to face training)
- Industrial (2 days face to face training)
- Services (1 day face to face training)
Course Fee
$980 per person
It is desirable (but not mandatory) that participants bring their own laptop to the course to enable them to download documents.
